Bus Road Safety

  1. Step into or out of a bus only when it comes to a complete halt. Boarding or alighting from a moving bus is very dangerous.
  2. Remain seated throughout the journey. Stow away bag under seat or some other designated place.
  3. Step into or out of bus only when it has stopped near the kerb or road side.
  4. Do not lean or peep out of the door/window.
  5. Do not stand behind or in front of a bus or other vehicle as the driver will not be able to see you.
  6. No standing on the foot board.
  7. Leave seat(s) nearest to entry/exit door for the teacher(s) accompanying you.
  8. In order to develop safety consciousness and road sense children should be encouraged to acquaint themselves with traffic rules as well as take precautions for personal safety, e.g. Before crossing the road, look to right first, then to left and again to right. Cross only if the road is clear.
  9. Walk on pavement and, when absolutely necessary, on the edge of the road facing the oncoming traffic. In other words, on the right side of the road. This will enable you to take evasive action against an errant driver in time.
  10. Do not try to board or jump off a running bus.
  11. Do not try to squeeze through any two closely standing vehicles.
  12. Cross the road over the zebra crossing or at least just past the traffic lights. No jay walking, that is, crossing from anywhere along the road.
  13. Small children should not cross the road unescorted.
