International Activities

ISA PROJECT

Our school philosophy "Let noble thoughts come to us from all sides" received a fillip right from the day we were introduced to the ISA programme. In our endeavour to bring the world into our classrooms, the staff, students and immediate community interacted freely with each other and the world outside to create a microcosm of a global family within the premises of the school itself.

The school calender with its normal planned activities was now looked upon innovatively to give it the required international dimension. Summer vacation assignments became more focussed on global issues and thinking out-of-the-box was encouraged. Special morning assemblies on the celebration of International days brought issues of youth, the elderly and AIDS victims out of the periphery of thought right into central focus. The sight of the invited inmates of an Old Age Home on World Day for Older Persons dancing with students to the beats of old time favourites on stage, is one I we will not forhet for a while.

The introduction of ISA did have its fair share of apprehensions, glitches and moments of frustrations. All this only enriched the process and added to the sense of achievement when the work of a year found reflection in the dossier of evidence. This global voyage has been a significant milestone!

UKIERI PROJECT

In this increasingly global environment , young peoples' perspectives are changing at a pace faster than ever before. Young people withtheir aspirations, ideas and achievements are all confidently poised on the crest of knowledge revolution that will determine the shape of the future. To do so effectively, and without conflict, they need to cooperate with an understanding and tolerance of othercultures and their impact on each other in shaping the future.

The UKIERI schools strand aims to facilitate he growth of cluster schools. It will provide a unique platform for the sharing of educational development and reform in school sectors in the UK and India through the provision of oppurtunities for professional development for teachers and head teachers, and further avenues for policy dialogue, networking and sharing of good practices.

Under the UKIERI project six Bal Bharati Schools (Ganga Ram Hospital Marg, Pitam Pura, Rohini, Noida, Brij Vihar and Dwarka) and four schools of UK would work as a cluster on common projects. The four UK schools constitute two secondary schools namely New Castle Community High Schools and St. John Fischer High School, one primary school St. Joseph Preparatory School and CE DARS referral unit for adolescents with social disabilities. These 10 schools in the cluster will be working on joint projects on environment. A contact seminar for cluster representatives was held in UK in October,2006 to provide an oppurtunity for cluster reprsentatives to meet their parners and agree on a broad project outline for the next three years.

Mr.L.V.Sehgal(Principal), Mr.Baveja (Principal, Pitam Pura), and Ms.Sandhya Kakkar (Chief coordinator UKIERI) visited UK to meet head teachers of link schools. A joint Project curriculum has been approved by all schools and joint projects will be implemented from the coming session.
