Literary Club
The Literary Club, established as the Book Club in 2008, aims at fostering a love for books and literature in students, and promoting literary activities in school. The wide spectrum of literary activities undertaken by the Literary Club includes book discussions, interaction with authors, review writing competitions, literary quizzes, visits to book fairs and libraries, workshops, book jacket designing competitions, screenings of films based on famous books etc. The club members are also given summer reading lists, and recommendations for books to read over the holidays.
- A Book Discussion was organized on 27 July 2011 on two extremely popular novels' David Copperfield' and' Great Expectations' written by the prolific English writer, Charles Dickens. Avid readers of Class IV and Class V engaged in a lively discussion covering the narrative, theme and characters of the two books. The Judge, Ms Ritu Singh (English teacher of the school) lauded the efforts put in by our young ignited minds.
- A magic show by a renowned magician "Sumit Kharbanda" was held on 9August 2011 in the auditorium for classes IV to VIII. The magician's tricks kept the students spellbound.
- The Literary Club members of school's Middle Department took a stroll down the literary aisle on 19 August 2011 when they participated in Book Discussion Competition. The event gave the young geniuses a rich insight into the narrative style, genres themes and character analysis of some eternal stories of the two immortal writers, Munshi Premchand and William Shakespeare. The Judge, Ms Ritu Singh was impressed by the enthusiastic response of the participants.
- The Club members visited Delhi Book Fair at Pragati Maidan on 30 August 2011. They visited stalls run by various publishers & distributors.
- 'A 'Quiz on classics' was conducted for students of classes IV & V on 20 September 2011. The students answered questionnaires prepared on famous books like Black Beauty, Wind in willows, Little Prince etc.
- The Literary Club held a slogan writing competition on 21 October 2011 to commemorate world food day. The members from classes VI to VIII put on their thinking hats to write poignant slogans on the global issues of hunger, food wastage and food conservation. The best slogans were awarded certificates.
- Scholastic book fair was organized in the campus from 3 November to 5 November 2011.
- Five students from the literary club of Senior Department participated in book discussion "Life of a Pie" by Yann Martel at Springdales school, Pusa road on the 5 November 2011. Participants discussed various aspects of the book, including the characters, themes, participants' personal impressions of the book and how it changed their life. The comments by Mr. Soli Sorabjee, former Attorney-General of India, were awe-inspiring.
- To bring out the aesthetic and creative skills of children, the literary club organized an activity on card-making for students of class IV & V on 29 November 2011. Students of class IV enthusiastically prepared cards rejoicing the spirit of Christmas. Students of class V made cards to ring in the New Year and depicted their resolutions for the coming year.
- The sesquicentennial celebration of Swami Vivekanand was observed by the Literary Club of the Senior Department with presentations by members on 30 October 2011.
- Literary club held an English Calligraphy Competition on 27 December 2011 for classes VII and VIII. The talented children displayed painstaking writing styles and also created resplendent Santas and X-Mass trees to capture the spirit of Christmas.
- The Middle Department held a Story Board competition on 9 January 2012 for the students of the literary club. The students picked up folk tales from across the globe and captured the plots in colourful pictorial depiction. The best entries were awarded certificates of merit.
- On 15 January 2012 students of classes VI to VIII prepared story board of folk tales from various countries such as Greece, Burma, Bangladesh and South Africa.
- The club organized an enriching workshop on creative writing in collaboration with scholastic Private limited on 25 January 2012. The notable children fiction writer Dr Devika Rangachari, narrated her success story to infuse spirit and zeal in the budding writers of the school. Students of classes VI to VIII also participated in 'Spell Well', a quiz on English spellings.
- Staff members of GR and PR campus visited World Book Fair 2012 at Pragati Maidan.
