Environment Club
Launched officially in 2001 in collaboration with Delhi Government, the club has been a cauldron of environment related activities. The Environment Club aims at providing environmental education that sensitizes students towards environmental issues and encourages them to preserve the same.
- In the Primary Department, a Bookmark -Making Competition was organized on 5 May 2011 on the topic 'Importance of Conserving Environment'. The competition was judged by Primary Department teachers, Ms Deepshikha and Ms Shilpi Podder Das
- Twenty one students visited National Science Centre, Pragati Maidan to participate in 'Sit and Draw' Competition based on earth related topics on 21 April 2011. The competition was organized as a part of Earth Day celebration.
- A tobacco-control committee has been formed as per guidelines from CBSE.
- Our school has been selected as 'The Best Manager for Conservation of Energy' by Centre for Science and Environment. Award ceremony for the same was held on 15 July 2011 at India Habitat Centre. Ms Ramesh Manchanda and Ms Malini Dhall Chawla along with ten club members received the award on behalf of the school.
- On 26 July 2011 Nokia conducted a workshop on e-waste education in which students were urged to collect e-waste products. For their efforts, they received gifts made of recycled material. A recycle bin for e-waste was kept in the school. The students collected e-waste articles from their homes and neighbourhood to be put into the bin. The school won a gold certificate for this activity.
- Initiatives taken up in earnest by the club include tree plantation, recycling waste
paper and preparing notebooks from unused paper in old notebooks and files. Awareness is being created on using the recycling bins and segregation of waste before being disposed.
- Fifty five students took the 'Green Olympiad Examination' on 28 August 2011.
- Charts, greeting cards and folders were made by the Primary Department on
environment related topics.
- A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between our school and Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) SSCBS to work together toward the mutual goal of providing affordable educational resources to the economically backward while empowering a community of deaf women using waste material under Project Akshar.
- Waste Segregation Campaign A 'Waste Segregation Campaign' has been launched in the school premises to separate bio-degradable and recyclable waste for efficient management.
- Vermi Compost Vermi Compost pit was inaugurated on 8 November 2011 in the school campus. The Chief Guest Mr B C Sabata, Sr. Scientific Officer from Ministry of Environment, NCT Delhi graced the occasion. Students of all departments have started putting organic waste in the compost pit.
- Audit Report on Waste Management An audit report on Waste Management was prepared by the school under the guidelines of 'Green School Programme'. The audit report involved calculation of the total quantity of waste produced in school in different areas, waste collection system, disposal methods and recycled quantities. The audit report was submitted to Centre for Science and Environment on 28 December 2011.
- A group of 12 Environment Club members attended TRASH festival held at Salwan Public School from 23 January to 25 January 2012. They attended workshops on 'ECO JEWELLERY', 'POTTERY', 'DO IT YOURSELF' and participated in painting and 'KABAD SE JUGAD' competition.
